Star Anna & the Laughing Dogs

"Star Anna is an American original. I am a huge fan of her music and especially her voice. She sings from a place of beauty and pain that translates to my soul and takes me to a higher place. Wherever Star and the Laughing Dogs play I go when I am in town. Her Cds rarely leave my player."

- Mike McCready, Pearl Jam

"She is the real deal.  She will be a talent that we can all say that we saw her when . . . . Guaranteed."

- Duff McKagan, Guns 'n' Roses, Velvet Revolver, Loaded

"Some stars burn brief and dim, Star Anna burns like S Doradus gone nova. She and the Dogs deliver passion, grit and rock’n’roll and right now there really isn’t anyone out there to touch them."

- Jeremy Searle, Americana UK

Listen up, Seattle! It is now time to bear witness to some serious artistic greatness right here in our town (OK, Ellensburg, but close!) Star Anna is the real deal, and if you haven't seen her or her amazing band yet, now is the time.

I don't often throw out this kind of jargon, either spoken or written. But this woman from Ellensburg has so much originality and soul in just her left pinky--especially live--that I just can't help but be in awe. It's a musical inspiration, a mix of Merle Haggard, Mark Lanegan and Patsy Cline. Do yourselves a favor and catch her locally soon -- before it's just too damn late.

Here are a few places to get started:

"Spinning My Wheels," The Only Thing That Matters: A sweet and melancholy take on woes of the heart. One can sense a real loss somewhere in her voice.

"Burn," The Only Thing That Matters: To say that this song is a 'shit-kicker' would maybe mislead that this is close to country music. I'm still not quite sure WHAT kind of music this is, and I hate stiff categorization. For the sake of illumination, let's just say that this music could probably not originate anywhere outside of the U.S. Either way, I love this song.

"Running Man," The Only Thing That Matters: The thing that a 7-minute song on a record shows to me is that an artist has confidence. Running Man could be longer if you ask me. I wouldn't complain.

Yeah, this record is real, real fucking good. Godspeed, Star Anna.

-Duff McKagan

"Ellensburg’s Star Anna debuted last year with Crooked Path, a promising album of rootsy alt-country, and while the roots influence is still there on her 2nd album, Star and her band have cranked up the electricity, giving her emotionally scarred songs an additional rock ‘n’ roll punch.

Her throaty, aching vocals sound better than ever, and the band earns their co-billing with tight, tough-sounding accompaniment. Crooked Path was a great beginning, but this one packs a mightier wallop".

Subject: Star Anna & The Laughing Dogs August update
Wow...August sure rolled in fast. The band is super booked for August and September with shows in Washington, Oregon, California, and Arizona. We are excited to be playing another Hootenany with Mike McCready, Duff McKagan, and many other notable Seattle artists on Sept 2, at the Moore Theatre in Seattle. This one will support the efforts of Gulf Restoration Network (GRN), the only non-profit exclusively focused on the health of the Gulf of Mexico. And, we will be returning to the bill for the Patsy Cline Tribute...this time with a show at the Rialto in Tacoma plus two shows at the Triple Door in Seattle. These events tend to sell out, so be sure to get advance tickets!
